WORKSHOP 49 “HOW THE ‘INTERACTION PROCESS’ ACTS AS AN ENRICHING ELEMENT IN THE PERSON CENTRED AND EXPERIENTIAL FOCUSING TRAINING COURSES, BY GENERATING THE NEXT STEPS OF BEHAVIOR, HUMAN ACTION AND SPEECH, REGARDLESS OF GENDER”
Karali A., Psychotherapist,
Hellenic Focusing Center, Athens, Greece
According Focusing Oriented Experiential Therapy (E. Gendlin, 1999), what we feel and think are always already in interactions with others, situations, language, culture and symbols. Instead of thinking, therefore, about feelings as “inside” our psyche, feelings are about interacting and relating to others. The challenge for the FOT trainer is to rely on the “interaction first” concept during the training course. From this interaction, through experiencing processes, feelings, that went unnoticed before, might emerge and carry forward new differentiated contents. The presence of an accepting and empathic trainer might facilitate the trainees to start thinking of themselves, as future therapists, in a new enriched way. In this workshop we will allow space for an experiential environment where short labs and theoretical articulations of Carl Rogers and Eugene Gendlin will examine the concept of presence.
